About Lisa

"trust in the process...stay out of the results"

For sometime now I've been thinking about my life’s purpose.
What does that really mean to me?
In essence it comes down to ask...Who am I really?

For sometime now I have been defined as someone's wife, mother, daughter and friend...
Not to discount the many blessings I have received from these gifts, but it truly does not
define me totally.

As I dig deep into my Spirit while keeping my heart open for Divine guidance, answers have arrived to me.

I realize that yes, I am an eternal optimist. I especially love things of an inspirational nature. Whether it be people, soulful passions, creativity, beauty, compassion and strength.

And so as a leap of faith, I now have a venture which allows for this calling of mine
to come to be. Where the unleashing of creativity is boundless. A place where one’s
inner passion can be released and brought to life.

I believe it to be a safe place and a calm place to empower one’s self.

I am eager and totally thrilled as I look forward sharing with you, the many stimulating and newly inspiring experiences to come. I do have my work cut out for me however, as my list is long, time short and lots of enthusiasm bursting.

I am looking forward to sharing my home and having an enormous amount of artistic and inspirational energy flowing and stimulating from one person to another...that's what I live for.

I welcome this wonderful gift for both of us at my Inspirational Retreat.

Lisa

Saturday, Feburary 6th and Sunday
Febuary 7th, 2010

Instructor: Richard Salley

Join Richard Salley For A Special Intensive Cold-Connection Workshop

Whether you are an experience art jeweler or looking for your first class in jewelry making, you’ll learn a wealth of tips, tricks and techniques that you can apply to your own jewelry and assemblage projects.

The class will focus on creating a beautiful and intricate hinged locket that you will construct from a humble rusty washer, etched metal components, wire and your own hand crafted chain and clasp.

The two days will be broken out as follows:

First we will cover metal etching techniques. We will etch three separate designs on copper, brass and nickel silver. Several image transfer methods will be employed, including rubber-stamping, acetone transfer, PnP transfer along with free-form design.
We will also introduce the use of the jeweler’s saw, which we’ll use to make jump rings and
to cut out the locket cover.

Next we will focus on the fabrication and assembly of the locket. We will learn and practice rivet making, including the use of solid wire, tubing, eyelets, and brads.
Wire forming, wrapping, hardening and the use of wire staples, will be introduced as we build the framework that will hold the locket together and create the hinging mechanism.

The workshop concludes with the construction of a hand-made chain and clasp on which you will hang the completed locket. We will examine several chain and clasp design options. We will close the workshop with a chance to share in each other’s work with a review and critique.

Join the fun...learn new techniques or extend your existing skills that you can apply to your own projects.

Supply List:

I will supply all necessary materials to complete the project. Students need only to bring a photograph (or copy of a photo) to put in the locket.

*******NOTE: I usually use steel wire in my classes, however, some students find this too difficult to work with and prefer to use copper wire instead. If you choose to work with copper, please bring to class 50ft or so of 14gauge copper wire.

You will need basic jewelry making tools including:
jewelers saw and #2 saw blades
metal files
round and flat nose pliers

Instructor: Katherine England

The above two round mosaics were made by students

Colored glass, tile, pearls, stone and more...

I have found something profoundly beautiful in the art of mosaics.

We break down something that “is” and recreate it to our desires. Colored glass and tile, pearls and stone, primitive and blingy ALL work together in an amazing conversation between things that are broken that result in a piece of a
rt that is personal and stunning and whole.

It is a journey of connection. It is a puzzle to which we
have all the pieces. I can honestly say this art form completely alters how we observe the objects and movement in our lives. .

It is, at the same time, strangely therapeutic, and hauntingly addictive but mostly it is delightfully satisfying.

Class Title:

Lazy Dazy

Class Description:

It all comes down to a circle. From beginning to end. From center to outer edge.
The labyrinth of life is a beautiful circle we weave, construct and reroute to come to our center.

This class uses the timeless mandala as a template to learn the art of Mosaic. Our canvas is a rotating lazy susan which, upon completion, will prove to be a fabulous center piece.
Remember decorative arts?

Our class will cover patterning, color, nipping, shaping, grinding and general "how to" of designing your piece. Skills learned will cover all the basic mechanics of using glass, tile, beads, pearls, jewelry or any other bling to create your art piece.

We will discuss adhesives, grouts, sealant and other materials needed to make both interior as well as exterior art. We will learn how to create a faux glass finish on the edge using paints.

In two days you will fall in love with this art form and soon be mosaicking everything in your house. Toilet seat anyone? Please look at my website to see the possibilities.

I will provide ALL materials (glass, adhesives, substrate, tiles, paint, etc.) and tools ( nippers, cutters, running pliers, grinders, etc.) Just come with your imagination ready to go and our journey begins.

Saturday and Sunday - April 10-11, 2010

Instructor: Michael deMeng

Class Title:  Mask Maker, Mask Maker, Make Me a Mask

Class Description:

I collect masks. I’m not sure what it is but ever since I was a kid I have always been intrigued by the idea of transforming ones identity. That is why I love masks.

Perhaps it’s a superhero thing, but mask making is one of the oldest cultural traditions in the world, in fact the earliest example being from the Stone Age. The hunter would wear animal masks to disguise themselves and stalk prey. They transformed themselves into the animals they were hunting.

In essence this is what a mask does, it changes the wearer into something else. Have you ever noticed when you wear a mask you act a little differently, that you temporarily lose yourself and become whatever the mask represents?

In this class we are going to play with this concept and using various found objects or existing masks, we are going to transform them into strange and unusual facial disguises.

This is a two day class. This gives you the opportunity to make plaster forms from your own face if you are so inclined. It also allows ample drying time for some of the constructions before they are transformed with paint and texture.

Making masks is different than merely wearing them; it can be a process for artists to reveal what is veiled inside one’s soul. It is a strange art form that keeps secrets but also simultaneously unearths hidden worlds. Oh, the irony.

This is a 2 Full Day Workshop

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, April 10 and 11, 2010

Class Schedule Hours:

10am -5 pm

This is a Limited Class

Costs $350 - Lunch included

Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, 2010

Instructor:      Lesley Venable

Class Title:  The Altered Novella

Class Description:

As artists we may not all be writers but we are all story tellers. The quills and ink have been replaced by paint brushes, glazes and chalks while our parchment is canvas, fabric and vintage ephemera.
Instead of the nib scratching the surface of the paper our paints flow silently yet with the same need to set our thoughts free.

In this two day class we will weave our stories together in a handmade book using vintage fabrics, papers and images. Cradled within our books will be pockets and envelopes holding treasures of photos, poetry, journaling and more. The pages will come alive with stitching, stamping, fluid chalk inking and image transfers.

You will learn to create tape transfers and clear wrap transfers and how to incorporate them into your book pages and other collages. Other techniques we will learn will be how to age fabrics using a variety of methods and how to use gesso and acrylic stamping to add more depth to your artistic works.

make an ethereal looking fabric collage on a page. To embellish the cover we will create a resin filled bezel containing a tiny collage and, or charm.

This will be a day of fun creating and adventure. And if the Alice theme is not your pleasure, bring your own ideas and pictures for your journal.

The journal is approximately 5 x 7 and as stuffed with fun as we can possibly make it!

CLASS INSTRUCTORS

Richard Salley

About the Artist:

I have had a life-long love affair with art and ‘making stuff’. I began working with metal in 1969 as an assistant to Carmel, CA metal sculptor Malcom Moran.

After a brief period of operating my own metal sculpture studio and gallery, I entered the teaching profession.

I have recently retired after 32 years of teaching art and photography in public school. In 2002 I turned to making found-object jewelry as an outlet for my metal work and have been teaching jewelry making classes to adults at various venues across the U.S.

My work has been featured in ‘Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry’ and ‘Jewelry Artist’ magazines.

Examples of my work has been included in Susan Lenart-Kazmer’s book ‘Making Connections’, ‘Exhibition 36’ by Susan Tuttle and 'Contemporary Copper Jewelry' by Sharilyn Miller.

Michael DeMeng

About the Artist:

Michael DeMeng is an assemblage artist who travels the world teaching and creating mixed media shrines. He has exhibited throughout the world with his unique styles.

His book, “Secrets of Rusty Things”, published by North Light Books was released in May of 2007.

"My work is about transformations. It is about the transformation of the common into the sacred. Discarded materials find new and unexpected uses in my work; they are reassembled and conjoined with unlikely components, a form of rebirth from the ashes into new life and new meaning.

These assemblages are metaphors for the evolutions and revolutions of existence: from life to death to rebirth, from new to old to renewed, from construction to destruction to reconstruction. These forms are examinations of the world in perpetual flux, where meaning and function are ever-changing."

Pamela Huntington

About the Artist:

Pamela left New York City many years ago and landed like Alice in a sort of strange wonderland deep in the woods of Connecticut. Immediately, she began to look for haunting flights of fancy, curious old recipes, vintage oddities and ephemeral pages stashed in old cupboards.

And that is where the folly began…mixed media, collage, handmade books, tiny theaters began fill the house in the woods… objects of everyday tucked into shadowboxes taking on the patina of age, tiny beeswax creations adorning the library of imagination and so on…to be continued..

In the meantime finished works available in various galleries and published in
Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studio.

 Cory Celaya

About Cory:

I am an innovative Mixed Media Artist from Arizona. I have taught art seminars throughout the country and Japan since 1980. I like producing intuitive complex surfaces, with transparent veils of paint and opaque shapes scribbled with marks and symbols that may not survive the finish.

Because of my explorative nature, my creativity is in a constant state of flux, encouraging my students and self to "play", thus producing inventive art projects and art jewelry.

My latest passion is making the very trendy statement necklaces using whatever items I might already have, like denim, paper, paint, etc. The challenge is to "play up" the design and "play down" the materials.
